Tom: I doing a 2nd edition of my Mt Hood hiking guide: Around Mt Hood in Easy Stages (LOLITS Pres) & plan to include a section on the fires affecting the T'line Trail & access trails & the process of recovery from the fires. I'd love to include some of your blog if ok with you. Suggest we have an off-line conversation about this. Really appreciate your blog

Very cool. My wife and I hiked the Elk Cover trail to Elk Cove last weekend. You really helped me understand fire's progression and how the area will recover. I already had a good appreciation for the burn area but you helped deepen it. We loved our hike, the beauty of devastation and the recovery that's already taking place. If I do a blog post about our hike I will link to this post. Thank you for all the wonderful info and photos.

Thanks, Greg - and yes, I think Cairn Basin and Elk Cove will be different. Wy'East looks unscathed, as does Eden Park (from other photos I've been looking at on the USFS sites). That beautiful boulder meadow above Cairn Basin on the shoulder of Vista Ridge looks to have burned, too. Big changes for Mount Hood!

Thanks, Tom. I hope that Elk Cove, Cairn Basin, and Wy'East Basin are relatively unscathed, but am not holding my breath. However, it is GREAT to see the USFS acknowledge the Old Vista Ridge Trail. And that is a wonderful panoramic shot of the Pinnacles and Mount Hood!
